Travels—Tretorn Rises Above the Fray, Georgetown
July 2nd, 2009 · FASHION, SHOES, TRAVEL
I was looking forward to going into Georgetown. Have many fond memories from college breaks and summers on M Street. Perhaps my anticipation was a little too high, but I was struck by the numbers of chains, the feeling of being in a mall, but not. The architecture, the pulse of people on the street all make it better than aimless mall-ing, but still…and we practically missed one of the best of the lot, unassuming Tretorn with its small awning and up a flight of sunny, exposed-brick stairs on Wisconsin.
Not that I couldn’t have spent time in Barneys Co-Op or H&M or Anthropologie or any number of others, but the few minutes at the Swedish label’s shop helped satisfy that itch for a retail moment in the city.

Fashions—J Brand Tie Dye Skinny Jeans
July 2nd, 2009 · FASHION

Taking a cue from the summer of love with a bit of ’80s grunge tossed in for good measure, the J Brand Tie-dye skinny jeans are on the mark for fall denim trends. There are many varieties of either destroyed, skinny or tie-dyed jeans available and there will be even more to choose from as fall arrives. These J Brand jeans combine all of the top denim trends into one style. The J brand tie dye skinny style comes in three shades (shown above from left to right): “Thrasher” light blue/white, Black which has shades of indigo and white and “Zombie” in light grey/white .
These statement making jeans are a major trend this fall. Whether you choose a ‘destroyed’ style or one without rips and tears, pair your tie-dye jeans with a simple white tee and dramatic ankle boots or cage sandals. Top off this look with a edgy blazer or fringed scarf.
From our friends at TheFind.

Crimes—Woman Robbed and Shot at West 3rd and Kings Road
July 1st, 2009 · City, NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
Thank you to readers who emailed and commented, alerting me to this robbery and shooting that took place Monday night. The following description of the crime is from the LAPD Blog:
“On June 29, 2009, at around 11:20 p.m., a 31 year-old woman was walking east on 3rd Street near Kings Road, going to a friend’s house. The victim was approached by Suspect #1, a loan Black female, 20-25 years-old, 5 feet 5 inches tall, 145 pounds, wearing all dark clothing, who demanded the victim’s purse and indicated she would shoot the victim if she did not cooperate. The Suspect pulled the victim’s purse off of her arm and then shot the victim in the upper torso.
A witness driving east on 3rd Street approaching Orlando Avenue was flagged down by the victim who told them she had just been robbed and shot. The witness observed the suspect leaving the location in a car driving north on Kings Road and followed the car to the 100 block of South Flores Street where three suspects got out of the car and began running through the apartment complex. The suspects were described only as two male Blacks with dark complexions and one light complected female Black.”
Anyone with any information should call Detective Robert Palacios at 213-922-8266. After hours/weekends, call 1-877-LAPD-24-7 or text CRIMES (274637) and beginning the message with the letters LAPD. Tips, anonymous or otherwise, can be left at LAPD website.
No word on the woman’s condition.

Fashions—Whitley Kros Takes a Holiday
July 1st, 2009 · FASHION
Along with word that LA’s Whitley Kros has joined Hatch Showroom (which reps a strong roster, including Costello Tagliapietra, Charlotte Ronson, James Perse, Kova & T, Rachel Pally, Paul & Joe Sister and others), we get a look-see at the label’s holiday collection. And while I’m not huge into the paisley print (see after the jump), I’m loving the little dresses with well-placed ruffles, nipped-and-tucked shrunken jackets paired with skater skirts, and WK’s jumpsuit rendition, which is tailored in the right places.
Check the whole collection…

Travels—Margaritas at Lauriol Plaza, Washington, DC
July 1st, 2009 · DRINK, EAT
A little walk from Dupont Circle, the husband and I met up with his cousin for margaritas at Lauriol Plaza. I can’t speak on the food, but the restaurant—completely massive with three floors and multiple outdoor seating areas—was incredibly busy on a Saturday afternoon. Casual and fun.

Real Estates—Blackburn Property Progress
July 1st, 2009 · REAL ESTATE
Been keeping an eye on the building going up on Blackburn between Sweetzer and La Jolla. Word from a construction worker a while back was that it will be a five-story complex of some sort—not sure if it’s apartments or condos. Can’t tell much at this point, other than it takes up the entire lot.
