BLACKBURN AND SWEETZER

If this flyer is any indication of the comedy show it’s advertising, then it should be funny as hell because this has got to be one of the coolest flyers ever. The line up: Matt Braunger, Wyatt Cenac, Laura Swisher, Stephanie Escajeda, and Nick Adams, who also happens to be my husband. The place: La Cita Bar downtown, right next to the Pershing Square subway stop. DJs Heather Thompson and Alfred Hawkins will start at around 8PM, with the comedy at 9PM, then the party to follow. It’s free - i.e. no cover charge and no drink minimums, two downsides to the usual comedy show experience. I’m not familiar with Matt and Stephanie, but I can tell you that Wyatt, Laura, and Nick all work outside the lines of “black comedy,” which is not to say that race is never present in their acts but to say that each comes to the stage with a decidedly different POV and approach to a whole host of topics.
