Not sure exactly what Krisol at 8312 W. 3rd Street, between Sweetzer and Orlando, will offer but I dig the graphic, retro-hued awning that recently went up. It’s taken the space that used to be rare bookseller Michael Thompson Books, which closed up shop after 30+ years but still welcomes customers and dealers to its offices a block east.
The pic above, taken from the Krisol’s backdoor, doesn’t illuminate much, except that construction is in progress. The shop does pop up on MySpace however, which reveals men’s and women’s labels under ‘interests’, such as John Varvatos, William Rast, Generra, Lotta Stensson, Heatherette, and Louis Verdad, among others. Along with the labels, the other info - age 25, Virgo, in a relationship, college graduate, a kissy-faced commenter with keen observations like ‘Vintage Hats rock’, ‘Skinny pants rock’ and ‘I’m so lame?????’ - may or may not be reflective of what’s in store for Krisol. ‘About me’ content doesn’t bode well for any particular POV:
Krisol is not just a boutique, it is our home. Krisol (correct spelling Crisol) means melting pot. We use the name to explain who we are. We fuse together cultures and styles for everyone to enjoy. What is our focus? We have no major style focus(at least for now) [sic]. We do know that you will have a blast in our store? [sic] Why? Well, you will just have to wait and see.
The only blog entry, dated March 5th, reads:
THe [sic] store has stopped construction for over 3 weeks now. We already have inventory that we are sitting on and we still don’t have the city permits but I am confident that by tuesday [sic] all of this will be resolved and once we start construction again we will only need a [sic] 2 or 3 weeks.
You just gotta love the beauty of MySpace.
