Earth Day, yes, I get it. I’m all for it. It’s criminal the way this Administration has completely ignored top scientists on global warming. And then Rove has to be a total prick to Sheryl Crow and Laurie David. It’s time for the U.S. to step to the f*cking table. We need to change our lives. We need to think about the future. The polar bears are starving to death! All of it, yes, yes, yes. This is not to say that ‘green’ hasn’t already been commodified, or that we didn’t see it coming, but now shopping at Barneys is not only great for your closet, but apparently good for the environment (though still not particularly positive for your cash flow). With its recent email blast (shown above), Barneys has wrapped its eco in a pretty green bow.

First off, there’s its certified organic Loomstate for Barneys Green collection, of which sales benefit 1% for the Planet. The line ranges from $70-$145; I’m happy to note that the price point has not been inflated from Loomstate’s usual offerings, though I can’t imagine spending $145 for a simple hoodie regardless of where $1.45 of it goes.

Of course, there’s always Stella who’s been environmentally aware and doing something about it before it was so in. Her raffia sandals ($575) look great on the page, but in person not so much. Stella’s CARE line of facial products ($35-$76) is made with 100% organic active ingredients and 0% pretrochemicals and silicones. Like everything the designer does, the packaging is great, and is something many people can actually afford.

Also on Barneys’ list of organic options, REN ($27-$75) and Red Flower ($20-$62) face and body products, and lots of candles ($34). For dudes, Levi’s Eco ($195).
