Desert Oasis at Blackburn + Orlando

I’ve always wondered what the interior and back area is like at the Orlando Pueblo - that 13-unit, three-building apartment complex at the northeast corner of Blackburn and Orlando. I saw this three-bedroom, two bath up for rent this weekend (which is still up on Craigslist here) and had a look-see. In my opinion, the outside isn’t much to look at - this is likely colored by two years in Arizona during grad school, which was hot and dusty and barren - but I was impressed by the interior and an amazing back area. My guess is that it’s about 1,600 square feet, or possibly a bit bigger. It’s going for $3,200.

The unit is on the second floor of the most easterly building.

The owner of the three buildings has really kept them up. This is his second remodel of the units since buying them up in the ’80s. A very nice man, who seems to attract equally nice tenants. The guy in the unit below has lived in the complex for seven years; he’s gradually moved into larger units as they’ve become available. This is the living room - the owner added those skylights - and the hallway.

A better shot of the living room. That’s a wood-burning fireplace.

New, open kitchen. There’s a dining space right next to it not pictured. This is the largest bathroom, off the hallway.

This is the second bedroom and the master bedroom. The third bedroom, not pictured, is across from the living room, has French doors and would work best as a baby’s room or an office. The second 3/4s bath is in the master bedroom and has a similar color scheme/materials as the other bath pictured above.

The balcony off the master bedroom is really quite large. You could absolutely put a table and chairs out there. The back area is pretty incredible. Shown right is a big, gorgeous avocado tree; the owner built the dining/sitting area around the tree. To the left/west of it is a 40-foot pool, Jacuzzi, and workout room located in a building across from the units. To the right/east is two other decks with seating and tables, plus a community grill. Many of the units have a washer/dryer, but some don’t so there are washers and dryers in the building behind the avocado tree.
