Bamboo Haven Avita Opens

May 7th, 2007 · No Comments

When you’re welcomed at the door with a shot of tequila, you know it’s going to be a party. Last week, Avita Co-Op on 3rd Street, steps east from Toast (which I blogged about some time ago) held its opening party. It was packed and hot, and the models showing off Avita’s cashmere-bamboo creations must’ve been sweltering. The space is one of those loft retail situations - not mixed use, but a big open shop with steps that, here, lead up to the boutique’s office. Shops like this always make me fantasize about what it would be like to move into…

Not sure how this would translate to a non-model body, but I like the covered-up, sexy vibe of Avita’s dresses.

The store should get ample Toast traffic.

Avita dresses retail around $150.

Tops generally run $64-$80. Will be interesting to see if there is more selection in the future, as the clothing inventory is fairly slim at the moment.

The Co-Op stocks De La Luna Designs reworked vintage handbags; this eel skin number is $242.

Non-leather, Italian-made Mink platforms (around $350) and Sophie Simone jewelry (significant pieces, $500-plus) are pricier than the clothes.

Avita also sells San Francisco’s Go Build Studio bamboo furniture like this monster table pictured right.
