Got this email blast last Wednesday from Net-a-porter, or rather, from the remains of Girlshop, the NYC spot that really laid the groundwork for eboutique-ing. Then, I got the scoop Friday, May 25th from WWD:
It’s not quite over for Girlshop, the Internet pioneer. Net-a-porter said Thursday that it had acquired the company’s trademarks, domain name and customer database. The deal, terms of which were not disclosed, adds approximately 100,000 shoppers to Net-a-porter’s e-mail list. Earlier this week, Net-a-porter sent out an e-mail welcoming Girlshop customers to its site and informing them that Girlshop “is sadly closing down.” The company closed its doors last month.
Curious about the undisclosed amount for the deal and what Net-a-porter has planned for Girlshop. It seems like the email list wouldn’t be that valuable to Net. I was on both lists, so the list was at most 99,999. Can’t imagine I was the only one… Oh, yeah, free shipping at Net through June 5th by entering GIRLSHOP at checkout.
