I took my own advice and headed over to Silver Lake Saturday AM to check out roving pop-up bakery Treat Street, this time stationed in front of one of the three baker’s homes. I’m going to go ahead and be honest about my sugar consumption that morning: one silky cup of vanilla pudding with vanilla wafers; a coffee cupcake topped with whipped cream (inspired by a Tiramisu); half of an earth cookie with chocolate chips, oatmeal, and not sure what else; and a cappuccino (gratis from Intelligentsia, and prepared by Kyle, a finalist in the U.S. Barista Competition) as good as anything I lovingly sipped in Paris. This list is just what I consumed on-site. I left with a baggy full of cupcakes - a Milky Way cupcake in which the candy bar is melted into the batter; a pistachio sponge cake; and red velvet - a massive brownie made with Coke, a Rocky Road square, and a peanut butter cookie. The grand total was $15, which seemed like a pretty darn good deal to me. Everything was either $1 or $2. I brought most of the goodies to a friend’s home that night for dessert and her eyes lit up with the mention of Treat Street and all was gone but a few crumbs. I will have to have a salad-heavy week to make up for my sugary indiscretions but it was worth every morsel.
There was also an overall awesome community vibe - friends and neighbors hanging out and talking while nibbling. The mood was leisurely and definitely content. Now, if there’s any way to lure Treat Street over to Blackburn and Sweetzer…
The vanilla pudding; the coffee cupcakes.
The massive Coke brownies; the red velvet cupcakes.
Homemade signage to go along with homemade goodies.
Treat Street tees for everyone.
Kyle from Intelligentsia brewing to perfection.
One of the best cappuccinos ever.
