At least from me. I have to say, throughout my entry into the blogosphere, everyone’s been pretty cool. Boutique owners and designers have allowed me to take pictures and query them about their goods and services. People have emailed me out of the blue with kind words and encouragement and opinions (not always in line with me, but, hey, that’s part of it). Well, my luck ran out yesterday at Schwartz Bakery on Fairfax, just south of the now (sadly) shuttered T on Fairfax. Owner Daniel tried to run me off from taking a picture on the sidewalk, and was reticent to shake my hand when I introduced myself. Apparently, I am not part of his marketing plan, which he says he’s rolling out and doesn’t want publicity beforehand. Sorry, Daniel, but like you can’t stop me from taking a picture from a public street, you also can’t stop me from posting it on my blog - mmmm, a sweet morsel of publicity you wish you could spit out, delicious.

I feel that you should respect the wishes of a business owner and not pry into their life like a member of a paparazze. In the future you should ask permission from the business owner before randomly shooting pictures. Also, you are not a business owner and there may be a good reason why the owner is acting in this way.

Anita,
Ussually people who have respect for other peoples property and bussiness do not just barge in and begin taking pictures without introducing themselves and asking for permission. I believe if you had approached me in a different less comfrontational manner I would have allowed you to take pictures freely. You cannot just walk into The Ivy restaurant on Robertson and begin taking pictures. It looks suspicious. Should have any interest to visit in the future please feel free to do so and come in and say hi! We have our cafe which will be awesome opening in the next couple of weeks.
Hope to see all of you there!

Well, I would just like to clarify here. To say I ‘barged in and began taking pictures’ is false. I did not attempt to take a single picture inside the establishment. The only images I took were from the PUBLIC sidewalk. And I wouldn’t say I was confrontational, I would say my defenses were up from being shooed off a PUBLIC sidewalk. Again, I think it’s interesting that I have not had a single problem in any other instance…
