And it’s not pretty. I don’t have high architectural, aesthetic hopes for this behemoth apartment building on Sweetzer, just north of 3rd. There’s been zero signage. Although, I wouldn’t want to claim the thing either. Park La Brea, The Palazzo, now this gargantu-mess … Just think of all the potentially cool residential and commercial spaces that could’ve been put in place of Park La Brea, making it even more walkable and actually interesting. I’m going to stop now before I get so annoyed that my day is shot.

Park La Brea was built in two fazes. First the 2 story units during the post ww2 boom then a decade or so later the towers were built. It is a sister development to Park Merced in SF next to San Francisco State University and is identical.
This new atrocity that tore down some perfectly great original post ww2 apartments will likely be overpriced condos. Don’t you think? They look horrible the tiny balcony’s don’t look at all inviting.
I think zoning wize they couldn’t have added any retail to the building. But they sure did max out hieght and set backs. It sucks but every single home and apartment building in this part of town is in danger of being torn down.
On my block two houses have been torn down in the past month. The new homes will both have the garage in front (the first on our blocks like this) and one of them will be Modern steel and glass. This is a block of mostly original 1920’s homes spanish revival, tudor, and english cottage. Up till these two tear downs we only had one house that had been torn down and that house is UGLY. Has what we call the urinal at the sidewalk in the front. A long trough of water with about 8 spigets filling it. Sounds just like a urinal.
People have no sense of history or respect for the neighborhood.
