Get Waxed! Seriously, It Doesn’t Hurt…

August 1st, 2007 · 1 Comment

I know what you’re thinking. Waxing that doesn’t hurt? Get the f*ck outta here! Let me preface this by saying I believe I have a slightly higher-than-average tolerance for pain, but, even so, Get Waxed, just off Abbot Kinney (304 Westminster Avenue), is a friggin’ miracle. You have Elisha Reverby to thank for the five-month-old waxing studio, a natural and healthy skin crusader who opened up the studio because she found clients were traveling to Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, and even the Valley, to get waxed.

The studio is an intimate space, awash in ocean-hued low VOC paint, and everything from paper to products are as eco-friendly as possible. She currently uses a honey-based wax and will be switching shortly to her own sugar and lemon wax. Reverby’s waxing technique is top-notch; I swear it was the most painless waxing experience I have ever had, and I’ve had many. Also, the ingrowns have been very minimal. The price is right, too - only $30 for a regular bikini. Other services range from a $12 lip, an $18 brow, a $45 Brazilian, right on up to a full leg and Brazilian combo for $105.

What Reverby is extremely passionate about is her line of Organic Skin Food to Go products, a line of all natural, clean, food-based products without any chemicals or synthetic preservatives, ranging from $8-$25. I can vouch personally for the Cake cleanser ($20), made with a base of almond meal, farmer’s market honey, and apple cider vinegar; Whipped body cream ($19), a luscious blend of safflower oil infused in lavender, lavender hydrosol (water from flowers), and beeswax, which I slathered on at night before bed; and the Pampered PH mist ($20), a hydrating spritz with rose, chamomile, and lavender hydrosol with fresh cucumber juice and green tea. Go, get a wax, and learn from Reverby, who is a fount of information about the beauty industry and has an incredible energy. She puts out a fantastic newsletter that you can find archived online; you can also subscribe for $8 a year. For more validation, check out the WWD July 27th article, ‘L.A. Salon Owner Waxes Eco-Friendly’.
