The new organic Mediterranean cafe at 3rd and Sweetzer I posted about a couple weeks ago now has a name – Natura Mediterranean Foods – and is set to open in December. What’s in the small print (the fault of the image not the sign)? It bills itself as a ‘quick casual Mediterranean restaurant, with an emphasis on healthy dishes selected from the vegetarian friendly cuisines of the Mediterranean region and also from our California and local favorites.’ Natura also pledges to ‘never knowingly serve any foods containing artificial preservatives, flavors or food colorings and meats containing hormones,’ as well as to make its ‘best effort to use the finest organic and all natural ingredients and support the local producers practicing sustainable agriculture whenever possible.’ Sounds promising. I am optimistic. Perhaps someone finally is going to feed hummus junkies something better than canned garbanzos beans with garlic powder.
