Now have more info on Derringer Cycles at 7954 1/2 West 3rd Street, thanks to owner Adrian Van Anz, who graciously emailed me. The shop is open Monday-Saturday 10:00AM-6:00PM. Here’s the deal on the bikes:
The bikes are hand-built replicas of 1920’s Board Track Racing Motorcycles. They feature a Honda-built 4-cycle engine that gets around 180 mpg, and meets stringent EURO3 Emission standards. They are just under the legal classification for mopeds, and no additional license is required to operate one in most states. Unrestricted models can reach speeds of 40-plus mph; the ones sold for road use go about 30.
Like the retro styling. Would love to see one go!

that is a CHINESE 2- STROKE getting about 100 mpg depending on the engine size they come in two sizes 49cc and 69.??cc and if you think im wrong look a little harder four strokes dont have a expansion chamber and they would have a oil sump for the bottom end this engine doesnt so it cant be a four and to anyone saying “no they make “80cc” engines too ” no, they dont do your homework please and chuck your right its only a beach cruiser the only “custom” things on it is the tank, seat and paint
