The husband was walking home yesterday afternoon and witnessed some serious police action on Orlando between 3rd and Blackburn. Not sure what the outcome was but it would be really frightening if you were just some family leaving the mall. Here is his account:
Sunday afternoon. 4PM ish.
Turning the corner from Blackburn onto Orlando, I noticed what appeared to be a routine traffic stop in progress. The silver SUV pulled over right in front of the Mathnasium. The police officer immediately jumped out of his car, pointed his gun at the SUV and began shouting instructions.
“Driver. Turn off the engine. Throw the keys out of the window, now!”
By now, several other police cars had shown up and there were other officers with their guns drawn. One by one, the police had all the car’s occupants get out and walk backwards toward them to be handcuffed. It got a bit disturbing because one of the passengers was a small child. Once everyone was accounted for, they carefully approached and searched the car. Maybe this guy is some sort of big shot in the Chinese mafia or something, but it looked like a middle-class family on a Sunday outing to me.
I’m just glad nobody got tased.

That’s called a felony stop…Beverly Hills PD must have had some reason to believe one or some of the occupants were involved in the commission of a felony and therefor took them out at gunpoint.
This happens everyday in Beverly Hills, LA and everywhere else in the country, no biggie, very routine, though you don’t see it as much on this side of town and it doesn’t feel good to have a gun pointed at you I’m sure, whether you’ve committed a crime or not.

Mathnasium is a great place to send your kids!

There also seemed to be a fire near there last night - maybe a block east. Any idea what that was all about?

LA City Fire Department responded to a report of smoke at the intersection of 4th Street and La Jolla around 8pm last night, it turned out to be a false alarm, smoke from a BBQ.

Was that the Beverly Hills PD? That would be highly unusual since this is in LA not Beverly Hills.

The fire was a small fire @ Wokano. A bit ridiculous to have all those fire trucks blocking off 3rd St. for a relatively small incident..

@alex the sea turtle:
Yes, look at the lettering on the cruiser doors in the photos, it’s BHPD.

That fire was several months ago. A bit ridiculous to have them blocking 3rd street? Traffic flow is really the last thing on their minds during a working fire, and that fire had potential to get big. Fortunately they found the fire and knocked it out before it ran through the walls and burned the building down.

Blocking traffic on 3rd street is something the valets and fools who can’t park their own cars do everyday.
It’s a dam shame that Wolcano’s didn’t burn down and take Berri’s with it. The food at Berri’s is horrible and the service at Wolcano’s is rude.

traffic on 3rd St. is gridlocked on a regular basis because of the valet parking. Why is it so difficult for people to get out of the traffic lane to have their car valeted? The gas mileage my car gets is horrible because of this. I also wonder how its possible for Berri’s and Wokano to still be in business. Everyone I speak to thinks both of them are awful.

should have clarified - they sent over about 5-6 trucks for a small grease fire. that was unnecessary.
