A View From a Hotel Window, New Haven, Connecticut

This past weekend I spent less that 24 hours flying to New Haven, Connecticut. It was exhausting with very little sleep and a busy schedule, but well worth it. The two sides of my family collided in a pretty spectacular way: My dad received an award from Yale University, named after my great grandfather on my mom’s side, who was the first Native American to graduate from Yale. To further the family connection, my aunt, also on my mom’s side (a professor at UCSC, who just published this book Native Hubs, under Duke University Press) gave a lecture on my great grandfather. A very proud moment for both sides of the family.
