Maybe it comes with age and being married, but the husband and I were talking last night about our low expectations for New Year’s Eve. Our first NYE together was the best either of us ever had. Of course, we were in that sparkly falling-in-love stupor which helps, but we were in Washington, DC with very close friends (one of mine, one of his, who ended up lip-locked very early in the night) at a very cool jazz club with copious amounts of champagne, aided by the snagging of a bottle from the bar. Note: I think this is the only thing I’ve stolen besides a $.99 lipstick when I was 11 and, as a child, occasional sticks of gum off desks where my dad worked. Note two: I, then 22, the husband, 23, was impressed by my quick hands at the bar, and the resulting five-finger-discount bottle. Young love personified.
At any rate, we discussed possibly having people over this NYE, but then just weren’t able to get it together. We will not be elbowing our way through some club tonight or smacking down several hundreds as a schmancy restaurant, but other people surely will and here are some resources if you want to be one of them:
