Crime—Did You See the Helicopters?

At around 5pm last night, there were three helicopters circling around the neighborhood, just south of West 3rd Street. I could only capture one of them with my cell phone, but the three were searching and hovering in the same vicinity. No verification, but it would make sense if it was related to the bank robbery at WaMu yesterday—the Beverly and Fairfax branch.

A commenter asked if this was the same WaMu that was hit up on November 26, and the answer is yes. Per Melrose Action, regarding the November 26 robbery, “It is believed that no suspect in that case has been arrested and is described as Male White, 5′4″, 145, with cap, sunglasses, and a mask. He is still outstanding.” The site also give the number to the LAPD Wilshire Detectives at 213-922-8205, if you have any info on yesterday’s incident.

Actually I think the 5 PM choppers were more likely for the protests at the Israeli Embassy at the corner of Wilshire and Crescent Heights.

When I got home around 5 PM the traffic was horrible around there lots of police and people parking in our neighborhood and walking down to Wilshire with the Palestinian scarfs (big red and white with tassels) and what not.

Ahhh, thanks for the info Alex. I was walking north from there and missed it, only saw the helicopters.

Yes, the helicopters were probably for the ongoing protests on Wilshire at the Israeli consulate. I believe this is the 2nd or 3rd time in the past two weeks that Wilshire has been closed from San Vicente to Crescent Heights with a TON of cop cars and fire engines at hand.
