Have been wondering what the heck was going on with the Earnest Sewn opening at 7501 Beverly Boulevard, the site of the former Town Tire Co. auto repair shop. Back in November, word was that it would open in February, but California Apparel News has just released an article with June as the opening month. The 6,000 square-foot flagship will carry men’s, women’s, kids’ and custom-made jeans, as well as house a 1,200-square-foot Babycakes NYC, which will be the bakery’s first West Coast outpost.
Earnest Sewn partner Eleanor Yivisaker tells CAN that “the jeans company had to go through a lengthy permitting process with the city of Los Angeles, which included efforts to make the building more earthquake-proof.” CAN also reports that local retailers, such as Diane Merrick are anxious for the Earnest Sewn to open, believing it will bring more shoppers to the area: “I have been waiting and waiting and waiting.” Merrick does feel there’s already been growth in the area however, “It’s just coming together…People seem to be walking around more.”
And, indeed, the neighborhood seems to be coming up with significant recent retail additions including Heath Ceramics and men’s and women’s accessories and lifestyle boutique TenOverSix.
This will be Earnest Sewn’s second Cali boutique to its Malibu location, which opened in October.
