Eats—Pita Bar & Grill on Fairfax

Haven’t eaten here, but the Pita Bar & Grill opened up recently enough at 519 North Fairfax Avenue that its handwritten signage is precariously taped up, as is its menu inside.

Wow, judging from your photo, that place looks awful. The handwritten sign, the bargain basement tables and chairs, strip mall painting and wall sconces, and the two worrisome guys standing inside – and where’s the health code grade? – lead me to think this place will be gone within a few months. And what an awful name.

The contest is which restaurant will close first, Pita Bar & Grill or Natura on Third Street (no one ever eats there).

Its too bad about Natura, I think I remember Alex mentioned that he ate there and enjoyed it. I am guilty of not trying it yet and I would really like to.

I have eaten at Natura 3 times.

The food is ok. Neither great nor bad. There are a small number of regular customers that I can tell from the few times I was there.

The owner wants to be super helpful and ends up being a bit unsettling, in my opinion.

I have a business degree and one of the first things you learn is don’t open a business where one has already failed. I believe that location is doomed for dining.

I stopped in to try the pita place. I ordered a plate of hummus and an Israeli salad (total $9), and it came with pita and a nice plate of pickles. It tasted good and clean, and only took about thirty seconds to get.

As I was eating, the owner introduced himself. He said he plans to open “officially” in a couple of weeks. When I mentioned B&S to him, he promised he would keep the neighborhood informed about the opening, and then proceeded to give me a plate of falafel and a lentil and rice dish to take home to my husband.

I think it is nice that there will be a good, quick lunch place to go; I miss Eat a Pita, and I hope this place is successful.

Normally I don’t pipe up, but I have to say that this place is really great and a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. The shwarma pita has been really great and consistent and all of the condiments and accoutrements are fresh. It takes a bit for a new place to find its footing and I think it’s worth it to give these folks a chance – despite the “budget” sign or lack of letter grade (which can take 2-3 months to get anyway).

I have eaten at Natura. The food is not that great! The portions were very small and not very flavorful. I’ll give it about one month more. The wife doesn’t like it either.

This place is excellent. Fresh, simple, friendly and honestly, the most delicious falafel I’ve tried in the city.

After 1 try 2 weeks ago, we are hooked! Try the amazing Fallafel Special. Not only an abundant portion and amazingly delicious, but priced very low. Incredibly yummy sides / condiments at the mini salad bar are free. Have eaten there 4 times in 10 days. Sam the owner is very hospitable!

This is by far the best eatery in all of Los Angeles. It tastes exactly like the great eateries in Israel. The food is excellent. Don’t let the looks fool you. This place is clean and the ingredients are absolutely natural and organic.

I ate lunch at Pita Bar and Grill today with 2 friends. All of the food we ordered was delicious. We will definitely go back.
