Lamb in Bhuna Sauce at India’s Grill; click to expand
I’ve been meaning to write something about India’s Grill, just a few minutes walk from B+S at 428 South San Vincente Boulevard in a strip mall. The husband and I had spent numerous nights at either Electric Kharma or Surya on West 3rd Street—both which we like, the mesmerizing Bollywood (yet slow service) at Electric Kharma, the muted ambiance of Surya—before happening upon India’s Grill.
We’ve now returned to India’s Grill before the others because it’s good and reasonable. The other night we ordered veggie samosas ($3.95) and shared the lamb in Bhuna sauce (curry flavored with fresh garlic, ginger, tomatoes and a hint of mint), which comes with basmati rice, two vegetables (spinach and chick peas that night), naan and salad or raita if you get the meal ($16.95).
As you can see, it is definitely enough for two people to share, and we even took home leftovers. Sure, the interior isn’t quite as exciting as Electric Kharma or as well-appointed as Surya, but it does the trick to feel like you’re going out for a nice evening on the fly. Even throw in glasses of wine and you’re still hovering around $30 before tip, which really is not bad.

You’re right, India’s Grill is always reliable, has been there at least 10 years now.
If you try Cowboys & Turbans, let me know what you think.
Is Holy Cow still there?

I will have to check out Cowboys & Turbans! Holy Cow is still there. We’ve taken out from there a handful of times, but found that sometimes it just wouldn’t be opened. Perhaps they’ve become more reliable now…
