Artist Deedee Cheriel and her works; click to expand
Last week, designer Clare Vivier (the creative mind behind Vivier bags, of which I’m a fan) hosted a salon at her home for artist Deedee Cheriel, who showcased her collection of (mostly) acrylics on wood, a vibrant display of works inspired by nature, desire and an international experience.
Having grown up in Oregon, and traveled/studied in South America, England, East India (Cheriel’s half Indian) and other faraway locales along the way, Cheriel cuts across cultures, always with a sense of humor: Why are the trees ablaze, someone asks. That’s how she felt when she quit smoking. The ladies with bird heads? Based on her friend’s model girlfriend. Oh, and that quilty bear’s roar? That’s music to her. Cheriel has played in a host of all-girl bands, and got her start designing record covers and tees on Oregon’s early-’90s music scene.
It was a nice night. St. Germain cocktails, good conversation (with the results of the artist’s talk and Q&A in the paragraph above), and people investing in art (ranging from $250-$3,500). Many thanks to hosts Clare and Thierry, and of course, Deedee!
More of Cheriel’s works this way, check the gorgeous kitty…
