WWD reports that women’s boutique Madison and shoe-centric Diavolina opened up their adjoining new boutiques at 8741 West Third Street (310-275-1930) on Monday (my previous coverage on Racked LA is here).

Per the press release, the 7,000-square-foot just east of Robertson, designed by Standard, “is divided into two unique boutiques that share an entry and a common vestibule from the rear parking lot.” Madison’s space is marked by oak shelving accents and designer furniture, “creating a neutral and elegant retail environment,” while Diavolina’s space has “bright white resin floors with exotic-looking leopard-print carpet…Pink ceilings accents and shiny brass details” for a “playful and glamorous feminine” vibe.

Expect the boutiques’ offerings to include labels such as Marni Winter, Alexander Wang, Missoni, Balmain, Chloe, Elise Overland, Ossie Clark, Charlotte Olympia, Grai, Golden Goose, A.L.C. Andrea Lieberman, YSL and more.

Staggering rising rents prompt the move…

WWD points to rising Robertson rents for the move. Mark Goldstein, who co-owns the boutiques with Emily Goldstein, told the pub: “my rent tripled in February 2008, and I knew my [sales] volume would have to go up really substantially to justify that high rent…This being a recession, things didn’t go up, they went down.”

According to the fash trade, West 3rd Street’s rents around that area are much lower at $4-$6 per square feet, as compared to Robertson’s $12-$17 per square foot rents. The 20 parking spaces outback is also a nice draw to the new West 3rd Street space. American Apparel, which moved south on Robertson early this year and is now located just below West 3rd Street, adds to the mix of retail near the intersection.
