Sadly, an overcrowded Highway 5 caused us to miss—mon dieu!— Catherine Malandrino’s spring/summer ‘09 fashion show, and to catch only the latter half of the panel discussion on Pop Art at Catherine Malandrino Maison, featuring fashion designer Catherine Malandrino (stunning in saturated violet and neon yellow), interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Extra producer Brittany Weinstein and moderator Degen Pener, editor in chief of Angeleno mag. As with Trina Turk at The Red House Interiors, this was part of La Cienega Design Quarter’s ‘Legends of La Cienega‘ celebration.

The crowd was the best dressed we’ve seen in quite some time, and the turnout was extremely good, with eager listeners standing out on the sidewalk to eavesdrop on the discussion.

WWD reports today that Malandrino is delving into interiors: “So many shoppers have inquired about the glass and mirror installation at the front of the store that she has decided to mass produce and sell it.” And about the newish boutique, replete with cafe and garden, she told the pub: “It’s more like an environment than a store…I wanted to create a space for customers without the pressure of having to shop.” Although, of course, we’d like to.
