Click to expand; the east entrance of the Beverly Center
According to NBC, a person has been shot and killed on the ground level at the Beverly Center:
“The shooting in the 8500 block of Beverly Boulevard was reported at 3:10 p.m., and the victim was taken to nearby Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, said Los Angeles police Officer Rosario Herrera. The victim died at the hospital.”
The parking lot is still taped off, at least on the east entrance of the mall. KTLA, ABC and NBC news vans are camped out outside, with at least five visible police cars. People can leave on foot, but people with cars in the parking lot are stranded. There are a handful here at Starbucks right now. The photos were taken around 5:15pm, and the scene looks pretty much the same now.
From LA Now:
Updated at 5:40 p.m.: The man, who fled from the mall in a silver Mercedes, was detained at Los Angeles International Airport while trying to board a flight. Police said the shooting took place in valet waiting area of the mall].
UPDATE: Per Manolith, it was rapper Dolla—Roderick Anthony Burton II—who was killed at the Beverly Center, 21 years old and “first discovered by international R&B superstar Akon in Atlanta, GA.”

This is so sad. But this doesnt suprise me. For this world has the chance to experience an African American President. And African American First wife. But still the stupidty is as bold as the sunshine we see everyday. I send my prayers out to the Burton family. Being that people can say things that may get their or someone elses feeling hurt. Then its pushed to the point where they feel THEY have the right to chose if that person LIVES ANOTHER DAY. INHALE AND BREATHE. This world has no ups. Only downs. I pray for not just the Burton family but the upcoming children in this world. Have mercy on them, people. Do they not deserve that much. Rest in Peace Roderick Anthony Burton II.
