So, I have a bit of a mash of information that I’m trying to sort out. I’ve heard from both Eating LA and Daily Dish that chef Laurent Queniuox, who recently closed Bistro K in Pasadena and was consulting at Vermont, has been looking to open BistroLQ on Beverly Boulevard near Fairfax in mid-July, but no address given.
From Daily Dish:
“The new space will offer a mix of indoor-outdoor dining, and the menu will include an eclectic mix of Quenioux standards like lamb, wild hare and, perhaps, partridge, as well as oddball dishes such as sea urchin tapioca pudding with yuzu kocho, and eel braised in red wine and served with dried plum and chanterelle grits.”
Then, I get word from a B+S reader in the area that he received a hearing notice slated for Thursday, June 11 Downtown regarding a 3,072-square-foot 105 patron restaurant with bar at 7771 Beverly Boulevard at Ogden. I went to Beverly and Ogden yesterday, and could not find 7771, but found the big restaurant-type space at 7775 Beverly. Hmm. Typo on notice? And could this be BistroLQ? I don’t see the outdoor seating potential. Or is this another restaurant moving in? Anyone with more info? I’m loving the growing number of stellar restaurant options on Beverly.
UPDATE: I hear via Food GPS in comments and posted here, as well as from Eating LA that BistroLQ will in fact be taking Mimosa’s space at 8009 Beverly Boulevard, west of Fairfax. Meanwhile, from Miss Teresa in comments:’
I think this is the site of the new Suzanne Tracht restaurant. If it is, they apparently have evening parking in the WAMU/Chase garage. It will be heard at the Community Council at some point.
And, with a quick search, it comes up from Eater LA back in June, 2008 that yes, it’s the spot of Suzanne Tracht’s restaurant Suzpree: “a contemporary spin on pan-Asian street food with emphasis on SE Asia and SoCal influences…”

I drove by that location last night and was also trying to figure out where BISTROLQ will land. That sure seems like a possibility.

I love new restaurants too, but where are they going to park the cars ?? They’re asking for seating for 105 patrons from 9 AM til 11 PM daily. Then there’s the employees’ cars. “Fio” is opening up with seating for close to 100 two blocks away at Beverly and Spaulding, with very questionable parking (their application has already been approved). All of this activity is taking place across the street from CBS and the Grove, in an area that’s in a parking crisis. Ogden, Genessee, Spaulding, Stanley…all R3 (apartment bldgs with insufficient parking) without permit parking, and already full of cars at all hours. CBS won’t let any restaurant use their huge lot for security reasons, apparently (even though I’ve been told their audiences park on the residential streets). The post office lot is used in a limited way by several restaurants already. Parking on Fairfax is maxed out by all the new restaurants on Fairfax.
Also, are they going to serve hard alcohol on Ogden ?
Valets and drunk drivers speeding on residential streets.
I went to the city zoning website at:
http://zimas.lacity.org/
The City has the corner lot at Ogden (the east side) as 7771 Beverly or 308 N Ogden.
7775 does not appear to “exist” in the City’s system….to the west, the numbers jump to the 7800’s.
The building appears to be mislabeled/misidentified ; the notice appears to be correct.
Is the parking lease agreement exclusive ? Are they double or triple dipping ? Can the lease be terminated with little notice?
The notice speaks about 31 parking spaces. How is that sufficient ?
You may call me a NIMBY, but when you have to park blocks away from where you live (or your guests have to) and you might get mugged or raped on the walk home…well, you see how it’s a serious issue.

Worse than the anonymous poster above’s smart parking comments is, Why in the world open a restaurant with such a pro-meat theme in what is becoming the veggie epicenter of the city? It will bomb like Opaline did for the same reasons. Beverly between Fairfax and La Brea has become a trendy-but-affordable stretch of restaurants with tasty, healthy, restaurants that offer food for everyone. Even if they offer a couple of meatless dishes, just having hare or lamb on the menu will preclude lots of people who would dine there to eat other options. Now they’re screwed before they even open.

Personally I think that we should do away with parking requirements for new restaurants. We need to continue to correctly control parking restrictions on residential streets. Forcing people to park where they have to and walk will make the streets safer not less safe.
Forcing them the business to find parking will require valets which hurt the neighborhood not improve it.

False alarm. The actual location is 8009 Beverly, the current home of Mimosa.

I was opposed to Fio’s approval because the parking is questionable, and what they claim to have is too far away. Also, we knew the Tracht place was coming, and Beverly is seriously out of parking. And I don’t like the trend of restaurants going into non-restaurant spaces (for cheap rent), and then converting them to restaurants with inadequate parking. With so many food establishments going under, like Celadon on Third, please find a restaurant space to go into and leave the retail alone.

The parking situation is unfortunate, reminds me of the time that Buddhas Belly used the Town Tire lot for parking until they decided to chain the lot. It would be nice for some cooperation and allow empty lots to be used instead of trying to squeeze cars on the residential streets that are already at capacity.

Thanks for the link and for the Beverly Boulevard update. I’ve always enjoyed Jar and am really looking forward to Suzpree. BISTROLQ should also be a great addition to the neighborhood.

Whoever is our new councilman needs to get us some municipal parking lots. Perhaps public-private partnerships along the commercial corridors, or joint-use projects at school sites to upgrade recreational facilities while adding parking structures that can be for both school and community use. There is a lot of wasted land at Fairfax High, for example. They should build a parking structure with a new, state of the art basketball gym on top on the corner of Fairfax and Melrose. It’s what their award-winning team deserves. Then, with the parking all located at the corner, the open space at the other areas of the campus could be reconfigured and upgraded to have real fields and a track that can be used by the school and the community.

Regarding the restaurant: They really need to unwrap the ad from their building. Not a good idea when you are trying to show you will be a positive influence on the neighborhood.
