Krislyn Komarov and her team of designers have me completely transfixed by their gloriously creative, modern windows. Last week, spiky coral and tubular deep-sea creatures, all white, took center stage. Inside, Krislyn design studio and boutique teems with botanical objects beyond imagination—dreamy feather trees, flowers made from pink clam shells, trees with branches of delicate mushrooms, seashell tiaras. It is otherworldly and earthly all at once. And, of course, don’t forget the fresh fleurs, arranged into stunning concoctions.
Occupation: Botanical Designer
Location: 8216 West 3rd Street, LA 90048
Fabrications, materials, inspiration. Your three-word response: Fresh or preserved botanicals
If you could bestow one of your current creations on the world, which would it be and why? Our woolen cloud mobiles. Clouds have always had a special meaning to me. I have hundreds of digital photos of clouds because I can’t stop taking them! When people buy one of our mobiles, comments usually consist of “I just bought a cloud, I can’t wait to hang it.” They are whimsical, dreamy and put people in a happy place.
From showbiz to florals, True Blood fan to Loteria…
How did it all begin? I opened my first shop 17 years ago in a tiny space on South Lake Avenue in Pasadena. After leaving the entertainment business, I needed to do something creative. I have always included found objects, stones and anything I can find to turn upside down and incorporate it into a unique piece.
An average day consists of… I start waking up with my “Bugs,” my 3 year old daughter, kiss my husband goodbye, then off to the studio to meet with clients, do visual design proposals and brainstorm with the design team. After work, hang with the neighbors (I live on Drexel) before the kids’ bed time. Make dinner and hang with my hubby and off to dreamland.
I want! I want! Where can I find your offerings? Besides our retail boutique and website, I have a few special pieces at Icon Interiors on Beverly Boulevard, Fred Segal “Green” in Santa Monica.

Clockwise from top left: Ira Glass from This American Life; True Blood; Robert Clergerie heels; Twenty8Twelve dresses; click to expand
Current obsessions: Listening: One of the designers here turned me on to This American Life that I buy on iTunes Reading: I have a three year old, my favorite books will have to come later Watching: True Blood, my husband and I are obsessed! Wearing: Work is always casual and I wear my khakis, a T-shirt and tennis shoes but out of the studio…I LOVE Robert Clergerie shoes and my new favorite dress is from Twenty8Twelve, but vintage fashion is very close to my heart. Eating: Always Loteria at the Farmers Market or Electric Karma, my neighbor Sipping: I take it old style/rocks with Scotch, Macallan, Lagavulin or O’ban

This place blows my mind. The stuff is incredible looking. But honestly who is buying it and how do they stay in business?
