The teardown on the north side of the block of West 3rd Street, between Sweetzer and Harper, has begun with the removal of the ceiling; Ethel owner Deborah Wolsh was told the materials were all being taken to recycling and that the rest of the teardown would take two days.

We also get a bit more info on the building to come via LA’s Department of City Planning site, which generates reports on new applications. For 8243 West 3rd Street is the following project description:

“2-LEVEL PARKING ABOVE 1-LEVEL RETAIL. THE PROJECT INVOLVES THE IMPORT OF 3,150 CUBIC YARDS AND THE EXPORT OF 4,240 CUBIC YARDS OF DIRT. HAUL ROUTE REQUIRED AS PER B&S.”

Previous plans for underground parking have been scrapped, so, as indicated above, it will be a first floor of retail and a second and third floor for parking.

A look at the block…
