Stopped by the new Marc by Marc Jacobs Men’s store at 8406 Melrose Avenue yesterday, a long, rectangular space right next door to the original Marc by Marc Jacobs boutique. It’s cleanly appointed with colorful racks of men’s merch along the walls and center sections of fun accessories—clip-on bow ties, cashmere or striped socks, books, key fobs, boxers and more. There’s also a small back room which just two days ago was going to be a stockroom and is being transformed into a spot for tees, polos and jeans, cubby shelves housing a different hue or style.
Meanwhile, Marc Jacobs president Robert Duffy was next door working away with staff on the windows and the newly merchandised boutique, now featuring just women’s. The result is loads more space, enabling customers to see and shop the merch with ease.
And so what about this new tee? Obama featured front and center with the words ‘DEAR MR. PRESIDENT, YOU PROMISED, I VOTED, NOW PLEASE DELIVER!‘ across the front, which could refer to a host of issues—health care, the war, gay marriage—or maybe all of it. It’s not yet available for purchase, but it seems it must be coming soon, given its placement in the Marc by Marc Jacobs Men’s window.
