The whole Earnest Sewn and Babycakes NYC opening on Beverly Boulevard never came to fruition, but there’s another NYC cupcake institution that just may be coming our way. Multiple neighborhood retailers have heard that Magnolia Bakery has signed a lease at the former dry cleaners space at West 3rd Street and Orlando Avenue. I have not received confirmation from my inquiries to Magnolia or Jay Luchs, which per the signage is handling the lease, but if it’s true, this is great news for the neighborhood businesses, as the cupcake bakery will no doubt bring significant foot traffic. Between D’Amore’s Pizza opening up and potentially Magnolia, the block will certainly get a boost.
