First with the bummer news from Eater LA that All’Angelo at 7166 Melrose Avenue has closed. From owner Stefano Ongaro: “It is with profound sadness that I must inform you that All’ Angelo is no longer in business. Like many other restaurants here in this city and across the country we have become a victim of this unpredictable economy, and despite all of our efforts we are no longer able to keep our doors open.” The restaurant had introduced an affordable menu not too long ago, of which there was a very tasty lasagna I devoured only recently.
And in more uplifting news, the Daily Dish reports that Nancy Silverton (La Brea Bakery, Campanile, Mozza) and Amy Pressman (Pasadena’s Old Town Bakery former owner) are guest chefs at Canele in Atwater Village tonight from 5:30pm-10:30pm, serving up burgers “as a sort of preview for fans and potential investors in the new burger restaurant, tentatively called Grass Burger, that the pair hope to open shortly in the Farmers Market on Fairfax.” Contracts are not yet signed but Pressman is “fairly sure that the deal will go through.” Can we all say awesome together?!
Just around the corner, tomorrow, August 26 from 5:30pm-7:30pm, the Little Next Door will be doing a wine tasting at the French spot’s new Wine Bar. It’s $18 per person and you can make reservations at 323-951-1010 or via staci@thelittlenextdoor.com.
And over at Kassava at 8600 West 3rd Street, the Caribbean restaurant is offering buy one, get a second entree or equal or lesser value free!

I have yet to try Kassava. Offering buy one get one free entrees is a little disconcerting. Hopefully they aren’t struggling and close to closing.

Matt,
I’m not sure. Kassava actually expanded into a little space next door not too long ago, serving coffee, etc…

When I’ve run by during the day, it seems to get some nice traffic from Cedars and other people working in the area.

I hope that grass burger happens! Nancy Silverton’s food is so awesome no matter what or where!
