For spring 2010, designer Louis Verdad of label Louver sent a parade of cream with touches of navy and gold down the runway (black having been his hue of choice last season). But before the creamy legions made their walk, Verdad projected images of power women and icons such at Michelle Obama, Oprah and Grace Jones on the wall, and in his collection notes: “Michelle Obama inspires me with her sharp and crisp appearance.”
And, at times, the collection did have a stately quality to it, particularly the dresses, some of which gave off an ’80s powerdress glam with gold buttons and hardware, navy insets and attention to the shoulder, whether one-sleeved, puffed, or long and blouse-y.

Powerdress glam
Pretty details included pleating (on sleeves, at the waist, skirting of a dress) and intricate lattice work across the front of high-waisted trousers.
Overall, the collection felt like adult dressing, with some looks skewing younger. And while a plaid bustier balloon dress looked perfect for a lawn party I’d love to attend, a crisp one-sleeved white buttondown shirt paired with crochet inset pants missed the mark. I say, stick to the women, Louis—the ones over 25 with lovely curves and a penchant for a bit of opulence—you dress them very well.
