Skingraft designers Katie Kay and Jonny Cota gave us rock-edged Amelia Earhart last night at Downtown LA Fashion Week. Naming the female flying legend, and flight in general (aviation, birds) as inspiration, the label’s ‘leather-armor’ pieces (studded, pleated, tailored like a glove) were the real standouts, though leather leggings, shorts with balloon-ish side pockets, and a black jumper with volume at the hips and precise shoulders also made an impression. The show closed with ruffled dresses that brought to mind can-can and a long black gown corseted and studded, also with a leather carapace along the sides.
