Eco label Popomomo presented spring 2010 on the stage of the LA Theatre, where onlookers from a circle of chairs watched models pose and tie colored tape at various angles of a contraption made of planks of wood. Dresses of hemp/organic cotton were the main event here—from the front, simple sheathes or minis tied or gathered at the waist. From the back, things got a bit more interesting with cutouts, exposed zippers and snaps, open backs with sashes, and circular ruffles. One of my favorite details made its way to front—lacing which gave an otherwise loose dress shape. Also of note were the rope necklaces with big bright beads. Designer Lizz Wasserman has designed for Urban Outfitters and Free People, and Popomomo certainly has that sort of wearability, though it would be great to see what Wasserman would do if she pushed the details a bit further.
