Turns out Scott Schuman’s book signing at Barneys Beverly Hills last night was incredibly mellow—the first of two events of the night for his photographic street style tome The Sartorialist (selections from his blog of the same name in paperback form with commentary), with a Beverly Center signing to follow. Writer Lilliam Rivera was there texting me the night’s developments, the event running from 5pm-7pm:
4:35pm Here at Barneys. The Coast is clear. No line, no one.
4:59pm Yeah, maybe five people in line. Including me.
5:17pm I will let you know how it looks when I leave. He hasn’t shown up yet.
6:08pm OK, I’m leaving. The line is about 25 deep. He is chatting with each person so it’s slow moving.
The post-event commentary, stylish book signing attendees…

The whole event ended up being easy-breezy. From Rivera:
I have to say, the line at Barneys was great because A) it was short and B) they served sparkling water, champagne and appetizers (sirloin mini burgers, spinach spanakopita) while you waited. There was also a DJ spinning. He was very sweet. Oh, and I was speaking to a girl in line and she said her sister waited for Scott in San Francisco earlier that week for 2 1/2 hours.
