A snaking line finally let to Scott Schuman at the Beverly Center’s outside terrace; click to expand images
Let me preface this by saying, I’m glad I took the short walk over to the Beverly Center, put down my $25 at Traffic to buy the book (the supply was dwindling), and made my way to the rooftop terrace for a half-hour or so wait for Scott Schuman to sign my copy of The Sartorialist.
But having seen images from his signings from Paris to NYC, and even hearing via text about the signing at Barneys Beverly Hills only moments before, I also couldn’t help but feel a little depressed about meandering through the food court at the mall to see the iconic street style photog.
I get it, it was for the masses, but if it was going to be at a mall, couldn’t the companion event to Barneys Beverly Hills been at Barneys Co-Op at The Grove? Allow me backtrack for a second to say the shopping center’s rooftop terrace is quite nice and lounge-y. Wine and treats were served to people in line, and everyone seemed quite pleased to be there, so, really, just airing these thoughts…
The peeps, the growing crowd, the nitty-gritty on the event….

So, I arrived at around 7:45pm and the line was about 20 deep before you got outside to the terrace; once outside, the line snaked around the perimeter to Schuman at the other end. Each person was handed a piece of paper and your name was written on it. The event ran from 8pm-10pm, and PR said that Schuman had to be on a plane at LAX at midnight, so they were trying to get as many people through as possible.
Unlike at Barneys, he didn’t have time to chat with every person, so it was a bit like getting your passport stamped. That being said, when I got to the front, he was incredibly gracious and thanked me for coming. I admit to being starstruck, and the moment was over so quickly as you were moved along by event staff. Word from LA Mag’s Chic Leak blog (the mag hosted the event) is that Schuman signed books till 10:30pm as he was walking out the door.
I left just after 9pm and the line had grown considerably, and I saw people walking through the mall, clearly headed to the event.
I wonder how he’ll describe the LA book signing events to Garance. Hopefully, he didn’t notice the Panda Express.

The line as I was leaving at a bit after 9pm

Oh wow looks so interesting. However, I would never be able to dress for an event like that I fear.
