Have you noticed that Berri’s on West 3rd has gotten a slight exterior makeover? The awning, which covered the outdoor seating, is gone with signage now directly on the exposed white brick front. Are there now more tables out, or does the outdoor seating just feel more obtrusive now that it’s uncovered? I couldn’t tell as I walked by last night. By my view, the whole thing isn’t really an aesthetic improvement, so I thought maybe they just wanted more seats…

It’s strange. The brick work is actually new I think. I walked by there early last Friday and there was a guy putting up those thin pieces of brick on a scaffolding and mortering them. So if it’s new why paint it? Strange.
I actually don’t mind this as much as the tables don’t look like they intrude as much toward the street as they use to. I never eat there but I walk past it at night sometimes on my way to sushi or Allora. The tables and chairs use to stick out so far you could barely get past it.
I hate how unfriendly everything is toward pedestrians.

I really don’t get this place. It’s huge. It’s empty. There’s no liquor license.
How do they stay in business?
I know they’re open really late – does it get crazy after I go to sleep?

I don’t get it either. But my understanding is that it does get crazy late after bars close. Oh and of last night those creeps pulled the tables out so far that they really intrude in the sidewalk again. So I take back the one nice thing I said about this redesign.

Strange place, always empty. They don’t have more tables, if they did they would have to get city approval for it, which in their case they have no need to as no one is sitting in the chairs, if anything they should remove some of the table and chairs.

The new brickwork looked fantastic went it first went up – reminded me of NYC firehouses and fun local spots out there… but then they painted it white… and it looks HIDEOUS now.
