Missed this bit last week on LAist, so thanks to a B+S reader for pointing it out to me: Sean MacPherson is already quite the nightlife and food impresario (Roger Room, Jones, El Carmen, the Good Luck Bar, Swingers), and now state records reveal he’s added Orso at 8706 West 3rd Street to his list. The blog notes this “…could mean plans to open a new eatery or bar. Earlier this month, a Chowhound posting indicated the building was in escrow.” UPDATE: Per the NYT, Orso is indeed closing November 21, so we wait to see what MacPherson will do with the space.
And while there have been rumors that David Myers‘ Sona at 401 North La Cienega Boulevard might be closing (to the protestations of the restaurant), GrubStreet LA sees the resto’s seventh anniversary menu as “no surer sign of Sona’s survival,” which includes “seven of the restaurant’s favorite tasting menu courses,” served Tuesdays-Thursdays. Avail at dinner for $77, dishes like Tahitian squash soup, roast duck with wasabi, and Maine lobster risotto have made the roster.
Cooking classes at Mozza cost a pretty penny, Cosby and Jason Alexander to serve you at Pink’s…
From Daily Dish, Mozza 2 Go’s Scuola di Pizza starts offering three-hour 12-person cooking classes for $150 a pop. Mozza co-owner Nancy Silverton and exec chef Matt Molina play teacher for the night, kicking off this Thursday, November 5 at 7pm (with another class to follow Thu, Nov 12, same time). The menu is an “Umbrian-American Thanksgiving dinner,” which intriguingly involves prosciutto breadcrumbs. 323-297-1130 to reserve a spot.
Expect Pink’s Hot Dogs to be extra crazy Saturday, November 7—Friday, November 13, celebrating 70 years in the biz. Celebs will man the stand dishing out $.70-dogs for 70 minutes beginning at 7pm each night. BlackBook reports on the “Chili Dogs for Charity” event, in which proceeds “will be donated to the charity of the celebrity’s choice.” Jason Alexander (Wed, Nov 11) and Bill Cosby (Thu, Nov 12) are on the list, among others. Check the full schedule at BlackBook.
