Back in June, I had the pleasure of attending an event at Esquivel Shoes—just before designer George Esquivel was announced as a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Finalist!—and left one very, very lucky lady. You see, there was a drawing that night for a pair of Esquivels, and the event’s host, the incomparable Rose Apodaca, shocked me and I think shocked herself, by selecting my name out of a swirled up box of cards. Of course, she knew nearly everyone in attendance so it probably shouldn’t be such a surprise for her to nab my name out of the bunch (Rose had a fashion column at Angeleno mag, where I got my first print job), but still, I was beyond surprised and totally thrilled.
So, I returned to the studio (tucked away behind West 3rd’s Douglas Fir) and chose my pair—these stunning textured black oxfords with patent detail made-to-order. I’m still reeling from my win! As I told George, the most significant thing I’d ever won until then was as a child—a pair of men’s Porsche glasses, which I gave to my dad. Thank you, thank you to George and Rose! They are superbly constructed and incredibly comfortable. I could not be happier.
