I mentioned I was on my way to Little Next Door Saturday night, which turned out to be a sausage fest in the best way. I ordered the merguez sandwich, which comes in can’t-finish proportions (yet, I almost did!), with fries and sides of a spicy, red concoction and hummus for dipping. The waiter cautioned [...]

B+S Eats—Restaurant3 (Not Cynthias) Happy Hour
January 28th, 2010 · 1 Comment · EAT
I swear this is not the exact same post as the one from late November, although they look ridiculously similar, both being fried chicken-related items at Restaurant3.
While the November post was about splitting the fried chicken ($25+$12 split fee) for $37, which is still an overwhelming amount of food (two fried chicken breasts each, [...]

B+S Eats—The Awesomeness of Eva and BlackboardEats

Linguini with udon noodles, garlic, bacon, and littleneck clams
I had been meaning to sign up for BlackboardEats right when it launched, but then forgot for whatever reason. Then somewhere (blog, Twitter, etc) I saw that Eva (7458 Beverly Boulevard) was offering up a free bottle of wine with dinner through the site and enlisted.
The result [...]

B+S Eats—The New Doughboys, Still Gratis Food Today and Tonight
January 8th, 2010 · 10 Comments · EAT
The husband and I hit the spiffy new Doughboys last night for gratis dinner. We went early, getting there at 4:45pm to avoid the lines and were the first ones there, but they weren’t ready and said to come back and 5:15pm. We made the mistake of going to Little Next Door for a drink [...]
B+S Eats—The Tar Pit Isn’t So Reasonable
January 5th, 2010 · 7 Comments · EAT
Like everyone else, I was curious to check out The Tar Pit, Mark Peel (Campanile) and Audrey Saunders‘ (Pegu Club) new Mad Men-esque restaurant and bar at 609 North La Brea Avenue. The interior delivered a dim, Art Deco, clubby vibe with acoustics that made it seem even busier than it was, nearly to [...]

B+S Eats—Follow Up on Saint Benoît Yogurt Pricing, Good News

Alright, I know I was just raving about my love affair with Saint Benoît Yogurt, but I would be remiss not to let you know about my financial findings yesterday at Whole Foods.
As I mentioned, you can either keep and resuse the ceramic packaging or return it to the market for a deposit, and [...]

Mmmmazing! I tasted Saint Benoît Yogurt for the first time about two weeks ago at the West 3rd and Fairfax Whole Foods. I was immediately delighted by the packaging—ceramic pots, which can be kept and reused or returned to the store for a deposit—but was even more mesmerized by the ridiculously creamy, [...]

Last Saturday, I found myself up very early trying to get some not-fun errands done. After an unsuccessful attempt trying to get my wheels aligned, I stopped by recently-opened coffee shop Bricks & Scones at 403 North Larchmont Boulevard for a latte. While the drink was good, the baked goods made by [...]

The husband and I made it over to House Cafe at 8112 Beverly Boulevard, just opened last Thursday and helmed by Bruce Marder (Capo, Broadway Deli, Cora’s, Brentwood) and chef-ed by Ricky Moreno of Capo. It was Friday night and clearly the word had gotten out, as the place already had a [...]

B+S Eats—Splitting the Fried Chicken at Restaurant3

This is splitting the Southern Style Spicy Fried Chicken at Restaurant3 (formerly Cynthia’s)—two chicken breasts, mashed potatoes and green beans. It’s $25, plus $12 split fee; $37 for two isn’t too shabby, especially since we ate the leftover two pieces of chicken the next night for dinner.

I couldn’t tell you the last time I ate at Koo Koo Roo for sure, but it might’ve been like 10 years ago. I worked briefly as an assistant at CAA, where many of the assistants would go eat fancy lunches at nearby Beverly Hills eateries with their $6/hour salaries (took me a second to [...]

B+S Eats—Cafe Angelino, Finally!

Honestly, I can’t believe it myself. Somehow, the husband and I have never, ever eaten at Cafe Angelino at 8735 West 3rd Street, steps east of Robertson. Part of it is our penchant to not make reservations. We’d walked by before and tried but would’ve had to endure a lengthy [...]
