February 9th, 2010 · 3 Comments · EAT

Steakhouse chain The Capital Grille is just getting started on construction at the northwest corner of the Beverly Center at 8614 Beverly Boulevard (where Hard Rock Cafe used to be), the first signs of which we saw back in August. I snapped a sliver of work in progress after the jump. Has anyone eaten at [...]

It stayed open longer than expected, but (as of yesterday when I walked by) Surya India at 8048 West 3rd Street now has papered windows, allowing for the transformation to The Burger Factory to begin.
Heading toward Fairfax at the former Celadon space at 7910 West 3rd Street, the exterior of the incoming Thai restaurant (which, [...]

Just a quick look at soon-to-open Chili Addiction at 408 North La Cienega Boulevard. Per Eater LA, it could be this Wednesday, we’ll see. One thing’s for sure, the whole thing (inside, too, check after the jump) is very, very red…just in case you forgot they served chili here.
Meanwhile, Ronin Izakaya Bistro across the street [...]

B+S Eats—Merguez Sausage Sandwich at Little Next Door

February 4th, 2010 · 8 Comments · EAT

I mentioned I was on my way to Little Next Door Saturday night, which turned out to be a sausage fest in the best way. I ordered the merguez sandwich, which comes in can’t-finish proportions (yet, I almost did!), with fries and sides of a spicy, red concoction and hummus for dipping. The waiter cautioned [...]

Seens—Saturday Night, Doughboys

February 3rd, 2010 · 5 Comments · EAT, ON THE STREET

Doughboys, which reopened earlier this month, seems to be off to a strong start. This photo was from last Saturday night, a bit after 7pm or so—they were definitely not waiting for Little Next Door (that’s where I was going, and there was still open seating) and it seemed a bit early for much of [...]

February 2nd, 2010 · 4 Comments · COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE, DRINK, EAT

Back in March, Beverly Hills Bohemian expressed concerns about Chado Tea’s future in the neighborhood: “I recently asked the owner/manager of Chado Tea Room about their business, in light of the recession and the on-going exodus of businesses from the area, when she informed me that their lease is up in two years and she [...]

Some food news from last week’s Mid City West Community Council Land Use Committee meeting. The most interesting being the possibility of Ratner’s Deli coming to 8480 West 3rd Street, just east of La Cienega and by the Smokin’ Joint. Along with applying for a “CUP for on-site sale and consumption of a full-line of [...]

Travels—Tasting Santa Barbara, Rainy Day at East Beach Wine and Carr Winery

January 26th, 2010 · No Comments · DRINK, EAT, TRAVEL

— Photos and text by Christina von Messling
It does sound a bit insane, but in the worst weather times Southern California has ever seen (Tornado warnings, hail!), I found myself driving up to Santa Barbara last week to tackle their wine region with a friend who recently moved up there. Rescheduling was shortly considered but [...]

I know, I know. Such little bits and pieces coming in on the former Food Court LA space, but, adding on to last week’s revelations, a gentleman working on-site Saturday confirmed that the new sports bar at 8334 West 3rd Street is named Goal. Like “kicking a goal” I asked? He said yes, and that [...]

Heard from Conroy Commercial back in November that Japan’s La Brea Dining was taking the former Fifty’s Furniture spot at 8050 West 3rd Street and now there’s a poster fronting the space with Robata JINYA (here’s the JINYA page on the La Brea Dining site, with information on two other JINYA locations). Looks promising.
